Bring It Home Under the Tree
By Natalie Sibaja
It is no lie that COVID-19 has impacted small businesses this year, but even more so, this holiday season. I interviewed one of the writers and co-founders, Bryna, of “The Things We Hold” blog. She features small businesses and personal favorites on the blog she shares with her sister, Shan. The best part? They're both VAHS grads! On her blog, Bryna mentions, “This year it is more important than ever [to support local businesses] with everyone doing their best to make it through the pandemic.” She also adds, “Local businesses are what make a community so unique!” With that said, we’ve put together a list of local businesses to shop for your loved ones this holiday season--and after, too.
Wildewood sells an array of plants and plant care products, pots, candles and even books. Their website is very easy to navigate and offers a tab labeled “Resources” to teach you how to take care of your little green friends! It offers the perfect gift selection for that one special plant parent in your life. Prices can range from $2-$120, so they're very affordable as well.
319 State Street
On their website, The Soap Opera promises that "you will find the best possible service and widest possible choice for bath and grooming products. Create your own custom scent or purchase a beautifully wrapped gift for someone else! The options are endless.” They sell a wide variety of self care products for that loved one that wants to be Brad Mondo this holiday season! Their prices range from $1.50-$300.
107 N Hamilton Street
Revel offers craft kits and sets for DIY projects! They sell Make-At-Home craft kits, and they sell On-The-Go craft kits you can take on little trips. But that's not it: they offer Holiday craft kits that are themed to enjoy all season long. Kits are budget-friendly and range from $10-$40. This gift is perfect for that crafty loved one who is looking to DIY their way through quarantine! And what about family craft night or date night? The possibilities are endless!
203 State Street
On their website, Little Luxuries describes themselves as “a State Street highlight" that has earned its reputation for excellent customer service over the last 30 years. "No wonder we rank among the top gift shops in the area year after year!” They offer gift sets for the holiday season and sell just about any gift you can think of: food, books, gadgets, and even Wisconsin souvenirs for that loved one missing home! Plus, they've got gift for every budget.
1925 Monroe Street
Good Day Shop describes themselves, on their website, as "a home, lifestyle and gift shop" that offers "a curated selection of mindfully-made goods from makers, artists and indie brands [they] believe in.” The shop features apparel, jewelry, homewares and even crafty items. Gifts can be found for just about anyone here! Prices range
depending on what you're looking to find here.
We offer up our heartfelt gratitude to fellow Wildcats, Bryn and Shan, for helping us encourage you to support our local businesses. Follow them on Instagram @thethingswehold. Now, let's "bring it home" this holiday season and beyond!
