Jon Gruden and Wisconsin Sports News By: Luke Brugger Date:10/19/2021
The Green Bay Packers have been rolling since their disappointing first game loss to the New Orleans saints. The Packers record since that first game loss is 6-0 with notable wins against the San Francisco 49ers, Pittsburgh Steelers and the Cincinnati Bengals. This week the Packers are getting ready to play against the number 1 team in the NFL right now the Arizona Cardinals- this game is going to be a tough one for the Packers, two of the packers key receivers: Davante Adams and Allen Lazard and their head defensive coach will be out due to COVID reasons so this will be a tough week so if they pull off a win it will be a huge win for the packers. On the Baseball side of Wisconsin sports the Brewers got absolutely manhandled by the Atlanta Braves losing 3-1 in the playoffs some say the reason for the Brewers losing so disappointingly was losing a key pitcher Devin Williams that fractured his hand punching a wall after the brewers won the divisional title. So it definitely would have helped if he played for the brewers against the braves.
In the NFL there has been some very big controversy lately with Jon Gruden and the types of emails he was sending. About a couple weeks ago Jon Gruden stepped down as the Head coach of the Las Vegas Raiders. The reason for him stepping down was because word got out that he sent multiple detailed homophobic, misogynistic and some racist remarks and statements in emails he sent to Bruce Allen who was the Washington football teams president at the time these emails were sent out. In these emails he frequently made misogynistic and homophobic comments to denigrate people around the NFL and to mock some of the leagues momentous changes. He denounced the emergence of women as referees. He made fun of one the NFL teams for drafting a gay player and was criticizing and basically hating on players for kneeing during the National anthem which was the way players protested racism. In these email Gruden called the NFL’s commissioner Roger Goodell a “f****t” and a “clueless anti football p***y”. Gruden also said that Goodell should not have pressured Jeff Fischer head coach of the rams to draft “qu***s” and that statement was targeted at Michael Sam. In Numerous emails during a seven year period Gruden just loved criticizing Roger Goodell and the league for trying to protect the players and reducing the concussions and said that Eric Reid, a player that protested during the national anthem should be fired for that Gruden said. Then Gruden Continued to use homophobic slurs to refer to Goodell and offensive language to describe some NFL owners, coaches and journalists who cover the league. Gruden also criticized President Barack Obama during his re-election campaign in 2012 as well as then-Vice President Joseph R. Biden, whom Gruden called a “nervous clueless p***y”. He used a similar remark to describe Goodell again and DeMaurice Smith the executive director of the NFL Players Association. In an email Gruden, who was working at ESPN, criticized DeMaurice Smith’s intelligence and used a racist trope to describe his face. So Taken together the emails provide an unvarnished look into the clubby culture of one NFL circle of peers. Where white males in power shared pornographic images, deriding the league policies and were jokingly sharing homophobic language. So this just shows how all these white owners and higher ups in the league act and what they say to each other in these emails. The league should start an investigation on them right to make sure nothing like this happens again.
